As a result of a brilliant operation, 16 children and their families were evacuated from the National Cancer Institute. A total of 43 people.
Our foundation continues to work. But now one more thing has been added to our tasks - to save the lives of our children. Literally.
Doctors and medical staff of the National Cancer Institute and Okhmatdyt tried to treat and even perform surgical operations in Ukraine, but after bombs hit clinics, kindergartens, maternity hospitals, schools, and houses it became clear what the Russians' words about "civilians are safe" are lies.
We decided to get our children out of this hell as soon as possible. An evacuation plan was drawn up in a few minutes: transfer from the hospital to Kyiv railway station, train to Lviv, transfer to the destination, where doctors from the Lviv hospital were on duty just in case, then another transfer by bus to the border, transfer to another bus to cross the border, obtaining a traffic permit during the curfew, translation of medical statements for all patients, organization of family reunions on the peaceful side, without explosions of shells and bombs.
Honestly, we can't count exactly how many people were involved in this rescue operation. Probably hundreds. But we can definitely say that they are all our heroes. Our gratitude is boundless.
The brilliant operation took place in 2 stages:
The first is the evacuation of 16 children with their families to Poland
Next - transportation of 12 children with families to Italy. Our incredible partners, true friends from Soleterre Onlus, joined this process. They managed to organize 2 medical planes. As of now, children and their relatives are housed in the best clinics in Milan and Pavia.
We can exhale. Our children are safe. We are preparing for the next battle.
We did this together with Soleterre Onlus, DPSUkraine, Lviv RSA, the Service for Children of the Lviv RSA, the Red Cross of Ukraine, the IRCCS Policlinico San Matteo Pavia Foundation, the IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori Foundation, the Regional Emergency Agency, del Ponte.
