The training combined both theoretical and practical parts. Participants worked with clinical cases and visited specialized departments of the Clinical Center of Pediatric Medicine, the “West Ukrainian Specialized Center”—specifically the oncology and hematology departments.
During this time, special attention was paid to communicating complex diagnoses, working with families, and providing empathetic support to children undergoing long-term treatment.
«The need for such comprehensive training for specialists in this field in Ukraine has existed for a long time. Hospital psychologists are often left to deal with complex cases on their own. We created this program to provide them with practical tools, a community of professional support, and training,» notes foundation psychologist, development and scaling manager for psychological assistance programs, Liudmyla Baletska.
Specialists from 14 cities took part in the training program, including Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Lviv, Chernihiv, Chernivtsi, Sumy, Mykolaiv, and Ivano-Frankivsk. The training will continue. Over the next six months, participants will work online, analyze clinical cases, and integrate the acquired knowledge into their daily practice.
РThe implementation of this course is an important step in the development of psycho-oncological care in Ukraine and the formation of approaches to creating a unified standard in hospitals. The training is intended not only to raise the professional level of specialists, but also to promote the development of a community capable of providing quality psychological support to children and their families in the most difficult life situations..
The training is organized by the Zaporuka Charitable Foundation with the financial support of Soleterre, a partnership that promotes the development of high-quality psychological assistance for children and support for families facing severe diagnoses.
