39 Children from all over Ukraine Took Part in the Winners’ Camp
Teenage cancer survivors came from all over Ukraine to learn living in the world that had changed while they were in the hospital, to communicate with each other and to regain their life that had been lost.
This time the theme of the meeting was Startups. The children got acquainted with each other and studied business cases, offered their business ideas, presented them and defended them before the invited experts.
In the context of the program, the participants had field trips to business companies and incubators of ideas and startups such as UNIT.City and Fabricator/FabLab, ARTERIUM and 1991 Open Data Incubator. At the pitching session, the guests came to the children to listen to them and to discuss business ideas with them.
Every day, the children had an intense program and could choose the areas of activities to their liking. Some danced with the choreographer who was in the top ten in the world with flamenco and hip-hop. Others created an animated movie with the Ridni Animation Studio. Every time at the end of the camp, the children recreated the camp’s atmosphere and embodied it in the animation. Painting in the gazebo with the camp leader Lesia Kondratiuk was a good coda at sunset.
Since 2015, we organized eight Winners’ Camps. Just imagine: eight (!) themed camps for children who survived cancer. The hundreds of survivors participated in them. Each time, these children learned something new and came home better, smarter, stronger and friendlier.
Also, Winners’ Camps help to overcome the stereotype of childhood cancer fatality. We want to show positive experiences for those who are still fighting to give them faith and strength.
Cancer is not a death sentence. Our camp proves it.
Thank you to everyone who supports this life-affirming initiative!
