Only two children managed to undergo MIBG examination in 2020

What are the results of the survey?

At the beginning of 2020 two children managed to undergo an examination at the Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital (Bergamo):

• David - completed treatment, and the scan confirmed the absence of tumor and metastases.

• Daniel - needs further treatment. The examination showed residual foci, and the family is planning treatment in Germany.

What is the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic?

Through closure of borders and quarantine restrictions:

• MIBG diagnostics for Ukrainian patients has become temporarily unavailable;

• Doctors are forced to use less accurate methodswhich makes it difficult to control the disease;

• Precious time is lost for making decisions about continuing or adjusting therapy.
