When creating the foundation, we realized at the very beginning that psychological assistance and physical rehabilitation would be its mandatory areas of activity. Assistance in treatment is only part of our mission. It is equally important to work on the consequences of the disease.
We organized a rehabilitation room at the Cancer Institute 13 years ago, almost as soon as the foundation of the Foundation was established. Thanks to our donors and partners, it is well equipped with modern equipment. But the main value of our center is people.
The specialists, whose professionalism is crucial to the success of rehabilitation, have already helped more than 500 patients get back on their feet and live a full life after surgery.
Tetiana Makovska has been working at the center for 12 years. She came to us as a children's massage therapist. Today she is an experienced rehabilitation therapist and head of the service:
"I really like my job because I can see the results. A week ago, the child was lying almost motionless, and now he is standing and walking on his own..."
Tetiana talks about the importance of this:
early start of rehabilitation, even before surgery;
learning to stand on crutches and breathe properly;
patience during the entire 6-8 month course;
individual approach to each child;
motivation through a game or with the help of a psychologist.
Due to the coronavirus, some classes were transferred to an online format. This complicated the work, but also allowed us to help children from other cities.
"Over all these years, I have once again seen how much stronger, wiser and more patient children are than we adults. All of them are heroes," Tatiana concludes.
In 2020, the partner of the Physical Rehabilitation project is the Gyniansky Family Foundation of Winner Group Ukraine. You can support the program by following the link:
