October 31 Zaporuka Charitable Foundation celebrates the first anniversary of the opening of the family home "Dacha"where children with serious illnesses live with their families free of charge. This is the only project of this format in Ukraine so far that allows young patients to be close to their families while they are undergoing treatment away from home. This year, the newly built Dacha became the second home for 169 families from all regions of Ukraine, whose children are being treated at the National Cancer Institute and the National Children's Hospital "Okhmatdyt".
The history of Dacha began in 2009 when the Zaporuka Foundation rented the first building next to the National Cancer Institute. Over the years, Dacha has hosted 1347 families, but the need for an independent and safe space inspired the team to build their own facility.
The construction of the modern family home began in 2018 together with the foundation's partners, and in October 2023, the doors of the new Dacha were opened by the foundation's president Natalia Onipko and former patient Makar from Zaporizhzhia.
The new Dacha house is a spacious, inclusive space of 950 square meters, where up to 13 families can live comfortably at the same time. Here, every corner is designed with respect for human dignity: individual rooms, large playrooms with libraries, places for rest and relaxation. Particular attention is paid to supporting children in need of physical and psychological assistance: this year 276 classes with a physical therapist and 352 psychological consultations for children and their families.
