Step by step to an active life
Cancer is a challenge that changes childhood. And when the worst seems to be over after treatment, the child faces a new challenge - the reconstructive surgery after removal of the bone affected by the tumor. Without this, the child's movement is significantly limited and the quality of life is lost.
A chance to return to an active life individualized endoprosthesis. It is made according to the exact parameters of the child, taking into account age, height, and medical indications. Such a design is complex and expensive - sometimes the cost reaches UAH 500,000. Unfortunately, this need is not covered by state medical programs. For most families faced with a child's illness, this amount is unbearable.
Since 2008, the Zaporuka Foundation has been helping families with children with cancer to overcome the challenges of the disease and long-term treatment. In 2024, five patients of the National Cancer Institute have already received endoprostheses thanks to our support. In 2025, we have already purchased endoprostheses for three children. All this is the result of your trust and support.
Every year, we are approached by up to 5 families whose children need an individualized endoprosthesis after long-term treatment. We have known these children for many years, as we have been accompanying them on their way to recovery since the moment of diagnosis. They want to be active like their peers - ride a bike, play soccer, travel around the country. And they can do it, but with our support at this stage.
