The Zaporuka Charitable Foundation has opened Dacha in Lviv, where children with serious illnesses and injuries can live free of charge while they are undergoing treatment away from home. At the Dacha, they stay with their families in individual family rooms with everything for a comfortable stay.
This space was created so that families from different parts of Ukraine, coming to Lviv for treatment of their children, would not be separated due to illness and would be close to each other. Among the first residents are families from Dnipropetrovs'k, Kharkiv, and Odesa regions.
The Dacha has 9 rooms for families with children undergoing treatment or rehabilitation at the Western Ukrainian Specialized Children's Medical Center and St. Nicholas Children's Hospital.
"Dacha is more than just a space for comfortable living. The Zaporuka Foundation has created a place of strength where a sense of home and family comfort is preserved. In addition, a psychologist and an art therapist work at Dacha to provide professional assistance to children and parents during treatment. To ensure that childhood does not stop during treatment, a play space has been set up for the residents, where they can spend time with friends or join in with creative crafts from volunteers.
Lviv Dacha is a continuation of the Zaporuka Foundation's mission and long-standing tradition of providing support to Ukrainian families in difficult times and during treatment. The history of the Dacha project began in 2009 - since then, the foundation has been providing families with the opportunity to be together during their child's treatment. The first Dacha was opened in Kyiv, in a rented space. In 2023, an independent Dacha was completed and opened for young patients of the National Cancer Institute and Okhmatdyt. It was only a matter of time before Dacha was opened in Lviv.
"The Dacha project is the heart of our foundation. For 15 years, we have been convinced of its healing effect. Children recover more easily in the arms of their families, so it is important for families to stay close and not lose their sense of home. Before the war, children with serious illnesses often had to be treated far from home. During the war - even more so. Many families come to Lviv, where there are professional doctors and a proper medical system to treat complex clinical cases. We have been planning to open Dacha in Lviv for a long time, as we saw the need for such a place. Now, thanks to our partners, we have the opportunity to rent the premises, but we are already set for the next step - the construction and opening of an independent Dacha in Lviv", - says the founder and president of the charitable foundation "Zaporuka Natalia Onipko.
