On World Children's Day, November 20, the Zaporuka Charitable Foundation presented the book "Never Give Up!" - 10 real stories of children who underwent physical rehabilitation during cancer treatment and returned to full life.
These stories have been collected to motivate and support other young patients who are currently going through the difficult process of rehabilitation. It is often difficult and painful for children. Physical therapists and psychologists who work with such children have to find a special individual key to each patient to help them through this process. The stories of the heroes of the collection resemble ordinary friendly conversations - they do not contain any precepts or instructions, only their own experience, sincerity, humor and courage to share their personal stories. Importantly, the book's characters were also once children who "had it hard" but eventually managed to find the strength to undergo rehabilitation. Each story is accompanied by comments from Zaporuka Foundation specialists, physical therapists and psychologists who accompanied the children in the process of physical rehabilitation and saw what helped them move on.
The book will be helpful for both patients and relatives who are close to the child and want to support him or her. The first 100 copies of the book will be sent to medical institutions in Ukraine with the highest number of children in need of support during rehabilitation. Among them are the children's department of the National Cancer Institute, the Okhmatdyt National Children's Hospital, the Western Ukrainian Specialized Children's Medical Center, and St. Nicholas Children's Hospital in Lviv.
"The heroes and heroines of this book once received support and assistance from Zaporuka. This is not a coincidence... The development of physical therapy and rehabilitation is one of the foundation's priorities. We know how difficult the recovery process is after severe treatment, surgery, endoprosthetics, and amputation. Therefore, for 15 years since the foundation of the foundation, we have always supported such children by providing them with access to professional physical therapy. In the end, we decided to create a book so that those who need support could feel among "their own" - those who understand them as themselves. This helps to find both the motive and the strength to undergo physical rehabilitation, despite everything", - says the founder and president of the Zaporuka Foundation Natalia Onipko.
