Recently, the charitable foundation "Zaporuka" organized a series of trainings for employees of day centers, crisis rooms and shelters in the Lviv region that provide assistance to women with a history of domestic violence. The training was conducted as part of of the "Breaking the Silence" projectimplemented by the Foundation with the technical support of UN Women in Ukraine and funded by the UN Women's Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF). WPHF is a flexible and rapid funding instrument that supports quality interventions aimed at increasing the capacity of local women to prevent conflict, respond to crises and emergencies, and seize key peacebuilding opportunities.
These activities were aimed at strengthening the professional skills of the participants so that the communities of Lviv region could effectively counteract domestic violence. In addition, special attention was paid to the emotional recovery of employees and the search for internal resources for daily work under high stress.
One of the key topics of the trainings was non-violent communication, which is the basis for effective interaction with people who have experienced traumatic experiences. The participants were also given practical advice on communicating with people with different nosologies. A lot of new and interesting information was heard during the report on the ecological and ethical approach to interviewing boys, girls, men and women who have suffered from violence.
Yulia Rudyuk, head of the Breaking the Silence project:
"We tried to provide our participants with not only theoretical knowledge but also practical tools for effective work with victims of violence. After all, the success of the fight against violence largely depends on the professionalism and psychological stability of those who work directly with victims."
One of the participants of the training, Oksana Skovronska, shared her impressions:
"I would like to thank the organizers for the important knowledge we have gained today and yesterday. Each training gives you certain keys that you can use in your work with clients. We will have these keys for the future to conduct proper interviews, get in touch with the client, be there for her and help her solve her life circumstances. And at the same time remain tolerant and empathetic."
The Breaking the Silence project, within the framework of which these trainings were held, aims to support Ukrainians who have suffered from domestic violence. The Zaporuka Charitable Foundation provides comprehensive assistance in the Lviv region, including psychological and legal support, as well as the provision of necessary items to women seeking safety in shelters and crisis rooms.
